Truck Crash

4-Month-Old Infant Dies in I-10 Big Rig Crash

By Wrongful Death Attorney on August 31, 2011 - No comments

There are about 300 people who were killed due to car crashes each day worldwide according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2009, there were 6,420,000 cars involved in an accident in the United States alone in which it resulted to 2.9 billion injury cases and 42,636 car accident deaths. This means that every 13 minutes someone is killed in a motor vehicle crash in the United States alone.

ABC15 reports that there was a fatal truck collision in Arizona that occurred around 6 in the evening last Thursday night at the Interstate 10 near Eloy. The car was driven by a 43 year old woman from Tucson who slowed down due diminished visibility in the right lane and suddenly was hit from behind by a tractor trailer which was driven by a 52 year old man from Maryland. The trailers impact with the car caused it to burst into flames. Witnesses were able to rescue two people from the car however they were unable to rescue the 4 month old infant. The driver of the trailer didn’t suffer from any injury however the people inside the car suffered from serious injuries.

When driving in bad weather, cars and trucks should use their hazard lights to alert other vehicles of their presence. Drivers and passengers should always wear a seat belt when on the road. Drivers should also avoid texting or talking on the phone while driving in hazardous conditions. Man Dies in Arizona 74 Crash

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has defined alcohol-impaired drivers as those whose Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is .08 grams per deciliter (g/dL) or higher. In 2009, 10,839 people were killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes. These alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities accounted for 32 percent of the total motor vehicle traffic fatalities in the United States.

A man from Scottsdale died after his BMW was struck head-on by a semi truck (AZCentral 05/19/2011). The Scottsdale big rig crash happened west of 87th Avenue on Arizona 74, known as the Carefree Highway; shortly before 6 p.m. Authorities say that they believed the BMW was the one who crossed over the center lane; while earlier reports have said otherwise. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Police are currently investigating the case. It is still unclear if impairment was a factor in the crash.

Drinking too much increases the chances of being injured or even killed. Alcohol is a factor, for example, in about 60% of fatal burn injuries, drowning, and homicides; 50% of severe trauma injuries and sexual assaults; and 40% of fatal motor vehicle crashes, suicides, and fatal falls. It should not come as a surprise that the government has not been lenient in making sure that their citizens are safe by strengthening laws on alcohol impaired driving. Remember, drinking and driving do not mix and when combined may only lead to tragedies.

Trucking Accident Wrongful Death Lawyers in Arizona

By Wrongful Death Attorney on April 28, 2010 - No comments

The number one wrongful death cause on Arizona highways is probably related to fatigue of drivers. Many people are aware that federal regulations limit how many hours a professional truck driver may spend on the road in a given day or week or for any continuous stretch. These federal rules were designed to prevent Arizona wrongful death trucking accidents that occur all too often, and all too unnecessarily, on our roadways.

The weight of a typical tractor trailer truck means that even moderate or minor accidents can result in unnecessary and wrongful deaths. It is vital that a professional trucker is not too tired to pay attention to the road as he drives. There are serious questions that arise from truckers who risk their livelihood, not to mention the serious injury and wrongful death they can cause, when they fail to rest enough between driving periods. Profit drives many trucking companies to look the other way when professional truck drivers drive more hours than they legally are supposed to, even though technology allows these companies to closely monitor them in order to prevent driver fatigue.

Keeping driver fatigue from being a factor in trucking accidents that cause serious injury and wrongful death is one reason to pursue a trucking accident claim. Pursuing justice against those irresponsible truck drivers who drive over the federally mandated hours and the companies for which they work will help them put the lives of innocent people over their pursuit of profit.

If you have been involved in a serious injury or wrongful death trucking accident and need experienced personal injury counsel, we invite you to call our Phoenix tractor trailer injury attorneys. We are happy to discuss the merits of your case, and to answer honestly your questions about it, so that you can decide the best course of action for you and your family.

Probably the number one cause of wrongful death on Arizona highways in trucking accidents relates to driver fatigue. As some people are aware, there are federal regulations that limit the amount of hours a professional driver may drive in a given day and in a given week and in any continuous stretch. These regulations are designed to prevent the very tragedy that continues to repeat itself unnecessarily on our freeways and roads.

Unlike a truck, the weight of a typical tractor trailer is so high that what would otherwise be a moderate or minor accident can often lead to unnecessary fatalities. As a result, making sure a driver is not fatigued and not too tired to pay close attention to the road in front of him is vital. Why do truckers continue to drive when they risk losing their own ability to remain as a truck driver not to mention the risk of causing terrible injury or tragic wrongful death to an innocent person on the roadway? Profit. Why do companies, armed with technology that would allow them to closely monitor to prevent driver fatigue in almost every case continue to allow it to happen? To make more money.

Stopping driver fatigue and holding those who cause serious injury or wrongful death on our highways responsible for driving over the federally mandated hours not only serves justice to those who are directly affected, but will continue to deter other truck drivers and other trucking companies from putting profit ahead of the lives of innocent people.

If you or anybody you know has been involved in a serious injury or wrongful death trucking case and need experienced personal injury counsel in Phoenix, please feel free to call us. We will be happy to discuss the matter with you and answer your questions so that you can have the facts you need to decide the best course of action for you, your loved ones, or your family.
